Skulptur Projekte Archives

The Skulptur Projekte Archives are part of the collection of the LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur, Münster. The core of the archives is made up of approximately 1,600 sheets of project-related documentation comprising concept papers, draft proposals and drawings, numerous models of realised and unrealised works, as well as correspondence between artists and curators, including many hand-written notes. These holdings are complemented by catalogues and visitor guides, a wealth of press, media and documentary material, photographs and videos, and legal and administrative documents such as contracts and authorisations. They document, almost seamlessly, all the steps from the preparations for exhibitions, via the definitive establishment of the projects’ concepts, right up to their implementation and the decisions as to which works should be kept in the collection and in Münster’s urban landscape.

The Skulptur Projekte Archives started with the research project to process the archive's holdings. Since early 2017, the VolkswagenStiftung has been funding the research project The Skulptur Projekte Archives in Münster: A Research Institution for Scholars and the Public (03/2017-05/2020), which processed the archives in a three-year collaboration between the LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur and the Münster University. In this, the Skulptur Projekte Archives are both the object and an instrument of academic research.
The cataloguing process has not yet been completed and the archive is currently closed and cannot be viewed by the public for the time being. As soon as the archive is accessible again, the opening hours will be published on the website.
