About

European-art.net (EAN) is a network of contemporary art archives. Our aim is to connect art archives across Europe and to allow location-independent access to their specific collections. Through one central search engine European-art.net relates all partner databases, making available a wide range of data on artists, their activities, as well as sources such as photos and texts. European-art.net provides a central access point to the wealth of information art archives offer. It is dedicated to artists, curators, researchers and those interested in the specific collections of art archives in the 21st century.

Established in 2002, European-art.net developed from the EU-funded research project vector (2000-2003) which focused to develop guidelines for digital archiving of contemporary art. European-art.net is organized as partnership. All participating institutions have made it their mission to collect and preserve materials on contemporary art, to record and make them available in accordance with scientific standards of archiving. With annual meetings and other events European-art.net supports and promotes the activities of contemporary art archives, providing a platform for professional exchange and the transfer of experience and knowledge.

EAN is currently chaired and coordinated by basis wien.
